Thre’s no place like Scranton during the first weekend in June. Art, fire, history, music, food, great architecture rule the city. To kick it off for First Friday June 1 the Arts on Fire Festival will again be showcasing fire arts on the 500 block of Lackawanna Ave. by the Afa Gallery through street peformances and a “Fire Parade” around the corner to the Fire at the Furance Fundraiser. Things get started at 6pm when DJ Conor McGuigan starts spinning records and our fire volunteers will hand out fire beads. Then at 7pm there will be awesome fire street performances featuing the Double “R” Twirelettes of Peckville, juggler Rob Smith, The Whirligig Hoopers and the Lotus Fire Belly Dancers. At 7:45 pm local drummer Mark Montella will break out a drum and lead the parade down to the furnaces for 8pm. Sparklers and noise makers will be on hand for the crowd! Discount tickets for $15 will be available until 7:30 for Fire at the Furnance in front of the Afa Gallery. Come celebrate summer, art, fire and Scranton!
